Garden for Wildlife!

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

This is the 45th anniversary of the Garden for Wildlife program through the National Wildlife Federation. Since 1973 and encompassing 2.5 million wildlife-friendly acres of backyards, gardens, fields, and community spaces across the United States, the Garden for Wildlife program helps to educate and inspire people to turn their own small pieces of Earth into thriving habitat for birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife.

I started transforming our yard about 10 years ago and it's turned into a real passion! What began in one corner of our yard, has grown to every corner and beyond. We now have an nature oasis, a happy place and less lawn to mow!

“It's ok to think outside the box and make your yard an oasis for wildlife and you!”

I encourage anyone who likes to see pretty flowers, to be outside, likes seeing butterflies, birds or nature in general, to look into getting your yard certified. It's so easy! You just need to show that you have food, water, shelter, cover, a place to raise young and sustainable practices (no pesticides, etc). It really is easy, a great nature deed and a super cool thing to do, especially if you have kids. Check out this link for all the info: National Wildlife Federation Backyard Habitat
